Local Urban Bites is committed to reducing its environmental footprint more than any other company delivering meal kits today. Don’t believe us? Let us show you!
How we do our part
Helping YOU help the planet, one meal kit at a time!
Reusable insulated totes
We deliver all our meal kits in reusable insulated totes. We take these totes back when we deliver your next set of meals, sanitize them, and send them out again!
We provide biodegradable and recyclable cold packs to our customers each week. We will always source the biodegradable option whenever possible. Regardless of which type of cold pack you receive, we’ll wash and sanitize them and send them out again. The contents of the cold packs are also non-toxic to you and the environment!
Your bags come with four biodegradable pieces of packaging - the plant fibre 4 oz. and 2 oz. containers and lids (half-cup and quarter-cup portions), cellophane cookie bags, and our brown paper bags.
Fully recyclable packaging
The zip lock bags that you receive can be recycled with your soft plastics. These items are made of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and biodegrade after six months of UV light exposure. The Hartland Landfill has a facility capable of degrading these bags responsibly!
Finally, responsible food sourcing
As foodies ourselves, we love knowing where our food comes from. We’ll never serve you a product we wouldn’t eat ourselves. Our fish is caught WILD and we source as many fruits and vegetables from local farms here on Vancouver Island. We work with local companies such as the Root Cellar, Islands West, Portofino Bakery, and Glenwood Meats – it doesn’t get more local than LUB!
The LUB Green Guide
Reducing our carbon footprint is important to us. Our goal is to deliver a fast, easy, fresh experience to you each and every time in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
We’ve created this guide to make it easy for you to responsibly dispose of all of your packaging.
